NodeScope is an unofficial, read-only companion app for CoreScope, the mesh network analyzer used by MeshTexas and other MeshCore communities, available for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. This policy explains what data NodeScope accesses and how it's handled.
NodeScope has no servers, accounts, or sign-in. It's a client that connects directly, from your device, to whatever CoreScope analyzer host you configure in Settings.
Everything you see in NodeScope — nodes, packet traffic, channel messages, and observer data — comes from the CoreScope analyzer host you choose to connect to, over that server's own public API and WebSocket feed. We do not operate that server (unless you've chosen one that MeshTexas operates) and do not receive a copy of this data. If you connect to a third-party analyzer host, that host's own operator may log requests according to their own practices — check with them directly if you have questions about a specific host.
To draw the map, NodeScope loads map imagery from a map provider. Like any website or map app, the provider receives standard request information, such as your IP address and which area of the map you're viewing.
If you grant permission, NodeScope uses your device's location, only while the app is open, to center the map on your current position. This location is never transmitted anywhere — not to an analyzer host, not to MeshTexas, not to a map provider or any other third party — and is not stored beyond the moment it's used to move the map. NodeScope draws your position itself; the map area around it is loaded from the map provider like any other area you view.
If you choose to monitor a private, key-protected channel, the channel's name and decryption key (either one you enter or one NodeScope generates for you) are stored only on your device: in the Keychain on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and on Android encrypted with a key held in the Android Keystore and excluded from backups. Either way it's accessible only to NodeScope on that device, used solely to decrypt messages locally, and never transmitted anywhere.
NodeScope downloads the public list of community analyzers you can choose from, and their icons, from GitHub. GitHub receives standard request information, such as your IP address. No information about you is sent with these requests.
Your configured analyzer host, region filter, map provider and display preferences, and onboarding status are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to us or anyone else.
NodeScope contains no analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs of any kind, and we collect no personal information. The only third-party SDK that sends data to its provider is Google's Maps SDK, described above, and only while you've chosen Google Maps on Android.
NodeScope is not directed at children, and collects no personal data from anyone regardless of age.
